Who Actually Invented Jigsaw Puzzles?

Who Actually Invented Jigsaw Puzzles?

I was doing a jigsaw puzzle with the kids this week, and had a random thought…

Who actually invented jigsaw puzzles? Was it accidental… or did someone come up with this on purpose?

Does anyone else have random wonderings like this?

Anyway - a quick Google search told me that the first jigsaw-style puzzles were actually made by a cartographer to help kids learn geography. He cut around countries on maps so kids could piece them back together and learn where everything was.

I thought that was pretty cool… especially since all these years later, we still have geography puzzles here at Brain Spice!

I wonder what that cartographer would think of our little shop - still helping kids learn geography through puzzles.

Anyway, if you’d like to find some wonderful hands-on learning resources (like jigsaw puzzles!), drop by these school holidays and have a browse!

…by the way - I’m so glad I had this thought the night before my daughter came to work with me. She’s such a good sport helping me take these photos 😆
