This interactive flipbook is from our Collection "The Painters - Masterpieces in Motion" - a tribute to some of the greatest painters of all time.
Each of the ten 6-in-1 flipbooks contains six of each artist’s masterpieces, taking you on a journey from the brushstroke to the big picture.
It also includes an augmented reality feature to discover the artist’s most important work.
René François Ghislain Magritte (1898–1967) was a Belgian surrealist artist, who became well known for creating a number of witty and thought-provoking images.
Often depicting ordinary objects in an unusual context, his work is known for challenging observers' preconditioned perceptions of reality. His imagery has influenced pop art, minimalist art, and conceptual art.
In 1927 Magritte traveled to Paris, joining the surrealist group headed by André Breton. In his works of that time, Magritte deliberately moved away from the world of the unconscious and developed a type of surrealism based on the absurd association of objects that he painted with a photographic meticulousness.
