Neuschwanstein Castle - Metal Earth

Ages 14+

The Metal Earth line of miniatures are purchased as a sheet of 11cm square, thin, laser-cut sheets of stainless steel. The pieces pop out and clip together by bending the tabs - no glue is necessary - to create fantastically detailed little models.

The Neuschwanstein Castle is located in Bavaria near the town of Fussen and was Walt Disney’s inspiration to create the Magic Kingdom. Neuschwanstein literally means “New Swan Stone” which is a reference to “the Swan Knight”; one of the characters in an opera by the composer Richard Wagner. King Ludwig II began construction of the castle in 1869. Today his fairy tale castle stands as the most visited castle in Germany welcoming more than 1,300,000 tourists per year.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - the scenes in and around Baron Bomburst's castle in Vulgaria were shot on location at King Ludwig ll's castle Neuschwanstein, located at the foot of the Alps on the German-Austrian border.
